Nigeria Bans Foreign Models From Advertisements

As known the beauty standard in most countries are the same; pale and skinny. From America to Europe the beauty standard has become unrealistic due to the people that live there. In Nigeria they are taken matters into their own hands and banning all foreign models from their commercials and advertising.


For many years Nigerian television has consisted of white counterparts and foreign people. Removing this is an enormous change to what Nigeria television used to be. According to the Nigerian government they are trying to “look for local talent”. According to The Root, “the advertising industry is estimated to be around $450 million in 2021.” This ban could increase it worth even more.


The ban will take effect in October. The government pledges to find local talent, make inclusive economic growth, and promote advertising. Overall, Nigerian government implemented the ban is to benefit Nigerians as a whole and bring inclusivity back.
